A native of North Alabama, Michael developed an interest in art at an early age. He spent far too many school days sketching in his notebooks during class!
As a teenager he discovered the work of photographers such as Herb Ritts, Helmut Newton and Patrick Demarchelier, forever changing the direction of his artistic journey. Michael bought his first 35mm film camera and never looked back!
Michael fell in love with the rich black and white images of the fashion/art photographers of the day and worked to emulate this look as his his own style evolved.
He attended the University of North Alabama where he thrived in the artistic community he found there. Michael earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree, receiving numerous awards and accolades.
Michael has since embraced the beauty of color in addition to his work in the monochrome realm. He created the pseudonym “The Scarlet Garter” to showcase his work on Instagram and Twitter.
