The Figure Project

Throughout most of my time behind a camera, I studied the work of many great art/fashion photographers.  Artists who specialized in celebrating the human form.  It inspired me to seek out subjects and create works in the same manner.  This project takes those studies and seeks to create a perpetually evolving body of work in figure studies. Blended with the aesthetics of classic boudoir, glamour, pin-up and fashion photography, this project will mostly be an exercise in basic lighting and composition. A sort of remedial project for myself, a “back-to-basics” project to further my skills and create beautiful images.

Figure studies have long been considered one of the most basic skills an artist should learn. The shape and movement of the human body has and always will be an essential part of the art world.

As someone who started out drawing, I didn’t have the time (or patience) to sit with a model for hours at a time working on just one image. I studied photography as a tool to build a reference library of images from which to draw. Of course, soon I was far more interested in photography than drawing!

My images have greatly benefited from my relationships with professional models, classmates, friends and some of my former boudoir clients. I consider myself very fortunate to have worked with some of the best people and look forward to working with many more!

I consider my photography to be art. I try to create art that is more than just “naked ladies,” even though I know that’s how most of the world sees it. I see it as an exercise in form, a composition of light and shadow on a human canvas.

I will always be seeking new people to collaborate with on this project. If you are interested in working with me on this or any other project, please feel free to contact me.
